Has your recruitment chair sent you a list of dates for the summer where you have to go learn about recruitment? You may be thinking “Great … I have been to a million and know all there is,” or you could be thinking “This is awesome. I have been really nervous and need help.” Either way, there are reasons you should attend all of the workshops available to you. Regardless, it is a great excuse to hang out with your sisters and catch up.
Recruitment workshops give you the necessary foundation to recruit the best PNMs for your chapter. The workshops help you understand and learn what conversations will occur. The ability to approach a stranger and talk about your sorority doesn’t always come natural to everyone. This is something that can require practice. Your recruitment chair will give you tips and advice about how to become more comfortable having these types of conversations. On the other side, if you are someone that is very comfortable talking with others, then you are an important asset to your sisters and you can help them learn and practice.
During these workshop you will also review all of the basics you learned during your new member period. This includes the history and unique traditions of your national sorority and your chapter, as well as the obligations of being a member. It is a good recap for all members, freshman through senior.
Another important part of the recruitment workshops is learning about the recruitment details themselves. Conversations are critical, but you also need to learn about what you will be wearing, the decorations, and the flow of each night. Reviewing these details will help you get a visualization of the night and understand the desired feel. Lastly, going through the flow will help you know what to talk to each woman about, at what time in the weekend, and where in the room. The clarification of these details should make you feel a little more at ease during the parties, so you can focus on the PNM and conversation.
Going to each workshop will help you feel more comfortable and confident going through recruitment, especially if it is your first time on the side as an initiated member. Listen to your recruitment chair and we know you will do great!
What things does your chapter do during recruitment workshops?
Cheers!
