Supporting Your Recruitment Chair

June 13, 2012

That sister of yours that has not taken even a small break from the sorority this summer, the one continuously sending emails to the account you only check every couple of days now, the one that is posting reminders in your Facebook group… you know, the one that seems to never sleep….. well, that is most likely your sorority’s recruitment chair. She is the dedicated and hardworking officer that will not rest until your sorority recruits the best women this fall.

It is incredibly important that you support her in every way you can, because she is working incredibly hard, not just for herself, but for you and your entire sorority.

So, what can you do to make her life a little easier?  Think of yourself as her favorite bra… always there and supportive.

Attend the planned events. She is putting a lot of time and effort into all of the workshops, retreats and summer orientations. If you are supposed to be there – be there and be on time.

And do so with a smile on your face. It is not enough to just show up, you must also remain positive. Maybe you would prefer to be laying by the pool, but you have obligations as a member and being a Debbie Downer has no place in the event.

Appreciate her. Your recruitment chair has bags under her eyes, because she is working to keep your chapter successful. Thank her and remember how important her job is. Listen to her and go the extra mile for her. Never underestimate the power of showing up 5 minutes early with her favorite latte in hand.

Offer your help and follow through. There are millions of things that must be done before the crazy weekend of recruitment. Offer your services. If you are creative and techy, offer to make the slideshow. If you are crafty, offer to make the decorations. If you don’t have classes on Friday, offer to pick up the balloons.

Your recruitment chair is someone who has given up her summer for the betterment of the whole chapter. The least you can do is your part.

What special thing have you done for your recruitment chair?

Cheers!
Casey, Kate and Rachel
