Congratulations! You’ve made it through your first semester of college as a sorority woman. It took a lot of dedication, time commitment, blood, sweat, and tears (well, hopefully not any blood), but you did it.
Now it’s home sweet home.
You finally get to go home and relax over Winter Break. But wait, you realize that means you won’t be seeing your new best friends for almost a month!
It’s easy to feel out of touch for a few weeks if you live far away from school. But these days it’s easy to stay connected to your sorority sisters over holiday breaks.
Obviously, you can use social media and internet tools to stay in touch like Facebook, Twitter, and Skype. Try setting up a Google+ Hangout date with your roommates from the sorority house at least once a week while on break. If those aren’t enough, there’s always a good “old-fashioned” text message.
If you’re really going to miss your new family, see if you can stay an extra day or two to hangout with them, or come back to school a few days early. If you only live an hour or two from school, try setting up a night out. Invite your sisters to your house to meet your family and see all your hometown hangouts. Maybe you could visit one of their homes over the break.
Also, it is never a bad idea to get a head-start on the new year. While you have a break from school, take advantage of the quiet, down time. Go ahead and get started on some sorority projects for your new office or committee you joined. You can also work some extra hours and save up for the fun year you have ahead.
Some of you still may even need to do some convincing of skeptical friends and family that joining a sorority was a great decision. Take the break to show them how you’ve grown, tell them about your great experiences, and let them feel included on your new life journey.
However you decide to spend your time, just remember to relax and rejuvenate – your sisters will be waiting to hang out and start the new year off right when you get back!
How will you stay in touch with your sorority sisters over winter break?
Cheers!
